Add a Bit of Fun to your Brownies!!!

When I mix up brownies I like to add in extra fudge, carmel, or butterscotch as the brownies are mixing.  When I put the mix in the pan I swirl a bit more of either of those toppings and then bake according to directions on box.  No I never make my brownies from scratch as I don't like cake like brownies at all and that is usually how my homemade brownies turn out.  Happy Baking!!

Another Fun Trick

Tastier Bread and Rolls Enhance a plain roll or slice of bread with extra flavor. Soften a stick of butter then whip in your choice of garlic, rosemary, lemon juice or honey. (taken from the book "Simple Tips for the Kitchen" compiled by Kathy Shutt )

Fun Idea

Designer Cookies Use a stencil or a lacy paper doily to easily decorate cakes, bars and cookies. Place the stencil on the top of a warm cake, and sift powdered sugar or cocoa all over. Carefully remove the stencil and you'll be left with a fantastic design. (from the book "Simple Tips for the Kitchen" compiled by Kathy Shutt )

Yummy Potatoe Casserole

This is a favorite from when we were first married and I am making it for supper tonight. On a cold and rainy day this just seemed to be the meal to make. 4-5 average sized potatoes 2-3 carrots 1 pound ground beef 1/2 soup can of 2% milk 1/2 soup can of Chicken Stock 1 can cream corn 1 can cream of chicken soup 1/2 cup of any kind of shredded cheese (we prefer Colby ) 1. Peel and cube the potatoes and carrots and set aside in a bowl. 2.  Fry with ground beef with some salt and pepper 3. Spray the inside of a casserole dish and then add the cooked ground beef, the potatoes and carrots. 4.  Pour the soup, cream corn, milk and chicken stock into a bowl and whisk till blended.  Then pour over potatoes and ground beef.  5.  Stir all together and top with cheese.  I usually add more cheese and stir it into the casserole then add some cheese to the top.  6.  Bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 11/2 to 2 hours, checking by poking with a fo...

Buckeyes

These yummy chocolate candies are from my friend Alicia. She gave us a box of them for Christmas and they were SO good. I wanted to post them because they are good anytime of the year. Buckeyes: 2 Cups Peanut Butter 1 Stick Butter 3 Cups Rice Krispies 2 Cups Powdered Sugar 12 oz. Semisweet Chocolate Chips (milk or white chocolate would work too) ¼ bar Paraffin Wax (in canning section at grocery store) Melt peanut butter and butter in microwave. Pour over rice krispies in larger bowl and stir to coat. Add powdered sugar (I added a little more so it wasn ’t too sticky). Roll into balls and put in the fridge until firm. Start melting wax over double boiler (I put one kettle into another one that’s filled with water) on stove top over medium heat, then add chocolate chips and turn low. It’s easiest to coat a couple balls at a time, taking them out with a fork to let excess chocolate drip, and place on wax paper on a tray that you can place in the fridge. Officially, you are s...
